One of the most exciting aspects of a holiday is trying out new food and drinks. Turkey is ranked among the top five countries in the world for cuisine and no holiday is complete without a taste of some of Turkey's famous specialities.
“GO FOR THE HISTORY, BUT STAY FOR THE FOOD” is often said about Turkey in the world.
A typical breakfast is fresh domates (tomatoes), peynir (white cheese), yogurt, zeytin (black olives), ekmek (bread) with butter (tereyag), bal (honey) or recel (jam), yumurta (egg) and cay (Turkish tea).
Sucuk (spicy Turkish sausage), pastirma (pastrami), borek (patty), simit (bagel), pogaca (flaky pastry) and even soups can be taken as a morning meal in Turkey. A common Turkish speciality for breakfast is called menemen which is prepared with roasted tomatoes, peppers, olive oil and eggs. Invariably, blacktea is served at breakfast. Coffee has affected Turkish culture so much that the Turkish word for breakfast, "kahvalti" literally means "before coffee" (kahve 'coffee' altý 'before').
